Bridal Fittings

Just when you thought it could not get any more exciting than choosing your beautiful wedding dress, then along come the fittings!

The first thing to remember is enjoy them!

  • Bridal fittings usually commence around 8-10 weeks before the big day.

  • Nearly every bride has a few niggles about their weight, this is normal, so don't panic. Ideally you should be within around 4-6 pounds of the weight you would like to be, a few pound here or there isn't going to make any dramatic changes to the fit of your gown.

  • For your first fitting you should have with you your shoes and any foundation garments (such as a bra). Many gowns are superbly structured but you may like to bring along a bra to try to see how it fits with the style of gown and your body shape. Bust cups can be stitched into most dresses to offer a little more fullness or a little lift.

  • Most bridal gowns need at least 2 fittings, unless there are any significant modifications such as downsizing, corset backs addition, or complete customisation.

  • I like to offer my brides a little crash course on how to be a bride, so how to sit, how to stand, where to hold their flowers etc.

  • For bridal fittings it is always best to have one other person with you who can be instructed on how to help you on the day. As tempting as it is to invite your BFF's, granny, Aunty Sue or cousin Elsa, it is less stressful if you leave the big reveal for the big day.
